Ten Integrated Program Areas
WHF implements ten integrated program areas addressing the full spectrum of sexual & reproductive health needs and socio-economic empowerment.
Community Outreach & Mobile Health Clinics
Deploy mobile health teams to rural and peri-urban communities across targeted districts. Provide family planning, ANC/PNC, HIV/STI testing, and referrals for specialized care.
Key Interventions:

School & Community-Based SRH Education
Comprehensive sexuality education in schools and community centers. Train peer educators and youth ambassadors to sustain behavior change and gender equality.
Key Interventions:
- Deliver Age-appropriate Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE)
- Train peer educators and youth ambassadors
- Establish school-based anti-GBV clubs
- Distribute student-focused SRH informational toolkits
Nutrition Awareness & Supplementation
Nutrition education for adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers. Provide micronutrient supplementation and promote household food security.
Key Interventions:
- Offer cooking demonstrations and balanced diet workshops
- Distribute essential prenatal/postnatal micronutrients
- Support home garden development
- Conduct regular growth monitoring for young infants
Cancer Screening — Cervical & Breast
Community-based cervical cancer screening via VIA and HPV testing, breast cancer via clinical examination. Train nurses and CHWs; advocate for early detection.
Key Interventions:
- Provide visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) screening
- Run HPV self-testing advocacy drives
- Train local nurses and CHWs in breast clinical exams
- Coordinate referrals for oncology care and treatment
Infertility & Obstetric Fistula Support
Counseling, medical consultations, and referral for couples experiencing infertility. Support fistula prevention, surgical repair, and psychosocial rehabilitation.
Key Interventions:
- Offer guidance and counseling for infertile couples
- Sponsor reconstructive surgeries for obstetric fistula
- Establish peer support groups for social reintegration
- Promote assisted delivery at health facilities
Menstrual Hygiene Management
Community and school-based menstrual health education. Distribute reusable sanitary materials to girls from low-income households; advocate for sustainable access.
Key Interventions:
- Conduct menstrual hygiene classes in schools
- Distribute sanitary pads and reusable materials
- Renovate school latrines for gender-friendly sanitation
- Advocate for VAT exemption on menstrual products
GBV Awareness & Survivor Support
GBV prevention campaigns in schools and communities. Survivor-centered services: medical care, counseling, and legal referral. Train healthcare workers.
Key Interventions:
- Launch community-wide campaigns against domestic abuse
- Manage a hot-line for immediate response
- Provide medical, legal, and counseling services
- Support survivors with temporary shelter
Training of CHWs & Peer Educators
Build capacity of Community Health Workers and teachers to deliver accurate SRH information. Refresher courses on SRH, cancer prevention, and GBV management.
Key Interventions:
- Organize regular workshops for Community Health Workers
- Provide visual/digital teaching tools to educators
- Train school teachers to notice signs of early pregnancy or GBV
- Evaluate training outcomes via community surveys
Advocacy & Policy Dialogue
Engage Ministry of Health and Rwanda Biomedical Centre in policy dialogue. Partner with district health offices and participate in national health planning.
Key Interventions:
- Participate in national TWG (Technical Working Group) meetings
- Co-develop guidelines with the Rwanda Biomedical Centre
- Publish research briefs on SRH access gaps
- Conduct community feedback forums for policy improvement
Sewing & Economic Empowerment
Equip GBV survivors, fistula patients, and low-income women with professional sewing and tailoring skills to foster financial independence and long-term socio-economic reintegration.
Key Interventions:
- Run a fully equipped vocational tailoring center
- Provide raw materials and toolkits (sewing machines)
- Offer business management and financial literacy classes
- Help graduates form cooperatives and access local markets
